Two driven people, one mission: protect the bees
WASPP is a free platform connecting citizens, certified professionals and municipalities to report and remove Asian hornet nests.
Our mission
The fight against the Asian hornet has become a crucial issue for biodiversity. This predator attacks bees and can wipe out entire hives. WASPP puts technology at the service of that fight: a simple, free tool so that every report quickly leads to an intervention, everywhere in Belgium and soon in France.
How WASPP came to be
It all starts in Stavelot. Yves Godefroid, a professional firefighter nicknamed "Monsieur Guêpe", faces the spread of the Asian hornet every day when he puts on his suit to destroy nests. An idea grew out of that field experience.
He talked it over with his best friend, Nicolas Delrez, a systems analyst-developer specialised in building websites and apps. Together, the two Stavelot natives designed WASPP: a free app for citizens, built to make reporting and removing nests accessible to everyone.
How it works
The process is deliberately simple. In three steps, a nest is reported and handled.
Photograph and identify
Take a photo of the nest and identify the insect. No need to be an entomologist: an option is provided if you cannot recognise the species.
Locate the nest
The app geolocates you automatically. You pinpoint the spot and indicate whether the nest is on private or public land. On public land, the municipality is alerted automatically.
Get connected
You get access to a list of certified professionals near you. They accept the job and set an appointment. Payment is handled on site.
The team
Two complementary Stavelot natives: field expertise and development expertise.
Yves Godefroid
Pest control technician
A professional firefighter and certified pest control technician, nicknamed "Monsieur Guêpe". A nest-removal specialist, he faces the Asian hornet every day. His field experience is where the idea for WASPP began.
Nicolas Delrez
Systems analyst-developer
A systems analyst-developer by trade, specialised in building websites and apps. As the creator of WASPP, he turned a field idea into a simple tool for everyone.
